Bell's phenomenon- It is the upward/outward rotation of the eyeball during attempted eyelid closure, a normal protective reflex unmasked in facial nerve palsy. ∆ Pathophysiology- Facial nerve (CN VII) paralysis abolishes orbicularis oculi (voluntary lid closure) while oculomotor (CN III)/abducens (CN VI) reflexes remain intact→ upward gaze on Bell's test (attempted closure). ✓Clinical Significance- It is Pathognomonic for lower motor neuron VII palsy (distinguishes from upper motor neuron stroke
