One of our favorite ways to trellis big, vining tomatoes is with string and a few tomato clips - that's it! When you transplant your tomato, you can either bury the string underneath your tomato to secure it in the ground, or tie the string to a stake and press into the soil. Then, tie the other end of the string to a simple structure above the tomato plant made of 2x4 lumber or metal conduit. Both are relatively inexpensive at most hardware stores.
