Each Apex wheel starts with 6061 aluminum alloy that’s been extruded into a log-shaped form, then x-rayed for impurities. Each extrusion is 30 to 40 feet long and weighs 1,700 to 2,500 pounds. Step 2 of the forging process: Extruded aluminum is cut down into smaller sections, about one foot long, each weighing around 120 pounds. These smaller sections are then pre-heated in an oven to prepare them for loading into the forging press.
