Halving numbers is a strategy for any division by 2. Halving even numbers that have an even number of Tens e.g. 48 or 126 is easier than halving even numbers with an odd number of tens e.g. 36 or 154.. The Break Up strategy works directly for halving numbers with an even number of Tens by halving the Tens then halving the Ones e.g. Half of 48 = half of 40 half of 8.
