Padding beads is a skill exercise for welding where you stack one bead half way over the previous bead. Its a very efficient way to get in a lot of welding practice and uses very little metal compared to other Tee joints, or laps. Think about building up a worn area on a shaft, or hardfacing teeth on heavy earth moving equipment, or stacking beads on a horizontal pipe joint.
