When ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter opened at Magic Kingdom in 1995, it was designed as a serious sci-fi experience, not a kids’ ride. Guests were locked into shoulder restraints as the room went completely dark. Through binaural 3D sound, the alien could be heard moving around the theater, directly behind and above guests.
