Let's talk about closed syllables! Closed syllables have a vowel sound closed in by consonants on both sides - a CVC word. e.g. the word “PIG” ➡️ P [consonant], I [vowel sound], G [consonant] Use hands-on methods like my syllable doors activity. Have students identify the closed syllable words by checking that the vowel is "locked" in between consonants. With fun practice finding closed syllables, students reinforce phonics skills and feel empowered tackling new words! Literacy confidence grows!
