I had a student long ago that despite my best efforts to help him, still ended up tanking in the class. I remember feeling like a failure because all of the soul searching and truth sharing I provided to help him. It all was for naught. Yet, I'm reminded that WE are ALL responsible for our own thoughts & actions, and that sometimes you simply will never be able to get thru to some folks. You may have to watch them spiral out.
