To collect and transport pollen, honey bees mix pollen particles with regurgitated nectar and form it into a pellet, which clings to each of their hind legs. The honey bees then deposit the pellets into a cell within the hive by carefully scraping them off using their other legs. Professor David Hu's lab at George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to better understand the mechanics of this process which could inspire new ways to manufacture soft materials. https://b.gatech.
