Here’s a behind the scenes look at a turtle shell repair. We do not begin this process on intake. We have a series of steps prior to shell repair as it is done in phases. We must be mindful of flystrike and maggot activity prior to sealing the shell. The Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre in Peterborough is the subject of Fix & Release, a short documentary streaming free on CBC Gem. The OTCC mixes modern veterinary science with MacGyver-level ingenuity to treat injured turtles and release them back into the wild. They’ve saved well over 2,700 turtles to date.
