Printing a larger cut deserves a larger brayer! In this video, Howard prints a copy of a cut. This cut is a reproduction of W.C. Butler’s letter sheet, “Commandments to California Wives.” This was originally published in 1855 and presented a satirical guide for women in California during the Gold Rush. Press runs with our 10x15 Chandler & Price Gordon-style jobbing press are always an undertaking! For this press run, Howard and Jared are using black rubber base ink to print a large photo engraving of a cartoon depiction of Howard and his favorite letterpress saying, “Mind your p’s & q’s.” The artwork was created by our staff member, Shawn.
