When teaching syllable types, it is important to remember our goal. Is our ultimate goal correct syllable division? Or correct spelling/decoding? Like everything in English, syllable types are not 100%. For example, we have the “TIGER” and “CAMEL” rules because it could be either! We need to teach kids to be flexible when they are decoding words! Have you tried this "LOSE THE RULES" strategy?
